Feeling Lucky? That’s Not How To Run Your Business

by | Mar 2, 2026

Green, Shamrocks, Leprechauns… March is the month of luck.

But businesses do not operate on just luck.

No business owner would ever say:

  • “We hire whoever walks through the door.”
  • “We hope customers find us.”

Obviously, that’s not a good approach.
Yet, somehow, tech gets a pass.

They run with:

  • “We’ve never had an issue, so we’re good”.
  • “It’s probably backed up somewhere.”

This is not a plan. This is a game of chance.

“Nothing happened” doesn’t mean nothing will.

Every business owner who has had a how-did-this-happen day, once said, “we are fine” the morning before.

Luck may have been on your side up to now. But luck is not a trend. It’s risk you haven’t met yet.

And risk doesn’t care about the past.

“Probably fine” is not prepared.

Most businesses find out if and how they are prepared when things go south.

Everyone starts to scramble, asking:

  • “Do we have a backup of this?”
  • “Who actually handles that?”
  • “How long will it take to be back online?”

Prepared businesses already know the answers.

“Lucky” businesses have to find out in real time.

And real time is costly.

Don’t Roll the Dice with Tech.

Hiring is a process.
Sales has a pipeline.
Customer service has standards.

Technology recovery? “Let’s hope it works.”

Business owners are too busy to look for or anticipate problems.

Not because they are careless. Because it is hard to “see” what is not there.

But what’s invisible is still a risk.

Preparing doesn’t mean expecting disaster. It means:

  • Knowing what happens next;
  • Reducing business downtime;
  • Removing panic and guesswork.

Reality Check:

You would not let your accountant “wing it” with your books:

  • “We’re probably tracking expenses somewhere.”
  • “We’ll figure it out when tax season hits.”

So why would you accept that with your tech recovery?

Wish for good fortune on St. Patrick’s Day.
Well-run companies don’t rely on luck.

They run their technology to the same standard they hold their people, their finances, and their processes.

So when something goes wrong (because it will eventually), they’re ready to get back to work without the drama.

If your business already has a solid system in place, that’s great.

If you’re still “figuring it out when it happens”, it is a good idea to schedule a 15-minute Discovery Call.

A quick conversation with our team can close the gap between hoping for the best and doing what’s best.
